Statement of support

By being EITI signatories, we contribute to an improved business environment and reduced political risk in countries where we operate. The EITI country-level validation is a multi-year, multi-stakeholder group process. Through our active participation in the process, we support the overarching goals of the EITI and endorse its 12 principles. The principles form the cornerstone of the initiative and demonstrate a commitment to anti-corruption and ethical business practices.

Engagement with the EITI

Barrick supports the implementation of the EITI Standard in Dominican Republic, Peru, Tanzania and Zambia.

In the Dominican Republic, Barrick Pueblo Viejo Dominican Corporation, a subsidiary of Barrick Gold Corporation, participates in the Dominican Republic multi-stakeholder group (MSG). In partnership with Goldcorp, Barrick operates the Pueblo Viejo gold mine, one of the world's largest gold and silver mines.

In Peru, Barrick has two operations, the Pierina mine and the Laguna Norte mine. The company was actively involved in the validation process and promoted the EITI Standard among other mining companies and stakeholders. Peru is considered a pioneer of EITI implementation in Latin America, and it has disclosed information about revenue and payments since 2007.

In Zambia, Barrick has one operation in the Lumwana mine. The company is actively involved in the EITI implementation process and participates in all data submissions, validation and reconciliation workshops and MSG meetings. One member of the Lumwana management team led the mining industry team to formulate the preparatory work on the Zambia EITI Council, which resulted in the submission of Zambia's application to EITI and Zambia achieving EITI compliance.

In Tanzania, through its subsidiary African Barrick Gold, the company participates in the validation process and multi-stakeholder group meetings under the Tanzania Chamber of Minerals and Energy umbrella.

Strengthening transparency

Barrick Gold discloses its taxes, royalties and other payments made to governments on its website and its annual responsibility report. In its annual report on Extractive Sector Transparency Measure Act (ESTMA), the company publicly discloses payments to governments on a country by country and project-level basis.
